“How do I make more sales?”
This is a simple question — with a hundred answers to give.
The truth is there’s loads of ways to increase sales, but two in particular that are probably your best options.
- Learn copywriting
- Learn sales psychology
But both of these things all have one thing in common: they take time to learn.
And when I say “time,” I don’t mean a couple hours or days, or even months — I’m talking YEARS.
As a beginner, this is understandably frustrating. You can’t afford to wait years to see more sales coming through. You want results now!
That’s why other methods, like the 3 weird “hacks” I’m about to reveal to you today, only take 10 minutes to do — but can start bringing you more sales within a week.
Let’s look at all 3 in detail, and how you can implement each hack in your dropshipping store — starting with hack number 1.
Dropshipping Hack #1: Use Facebook Video Demo Ads
When starting out, image ads are the go-to strategy that many beginners use.
Images are easy and not as intimidating, and yes — while you still can make money with them, video is (and always will be) a better way of advertising your product.
Think about it. You ever seen those infomercials that come on around midnight? Imagine if all they did was show you an image of a hoover behind a white background.
I mean, sure I know what it looks like — but HOW does it work? I don’t care about the colour, or how “streamlined” it looks. All I want to know is “Will this solve my problem?” And the only possible way to show a customer this, is to DEMONSTRATE it.
With video ads, instead of just showing someone how an item looks, you’re physically demonstrating how. This opens the eyes of the viewer because not only do they know how it looks, but they also know how it works — before even purchasing.
Videos build two things that are crucial when creating ads: trust and engagement. Customer’s trust you more because they know it’s not fake, and they can see other people using it. All the while, they’re engaging more with your ad by watching and liking the video, and even sharing it with friends.
So how do you make a video? The easy way is creating simple videos by taking the images your suppliers have provided and putting text over them.
Even better though, is to create a video demo ad YOURSELF.
“But wait. I don’t have a camera, or any other fancy equipment these infomercials have!”
The good news is you DON’T need an expensive camera or any other filming equipment — all you need is your phone. If you have this (which I know you do), you’re already 90% of the way there.
The other 10% is buying the product and creating the video which super easy (and fun!).
And no, you don’t need to over dramatize and make it like those infomercials you see on TV. All you need to do is show them how it works.
For example, let’s say we’re selling this “self-stir” mug.
Obviously we can’t see first-hand how the mug stirs itself, so we have to demonstrate how. This is when you take a video of you someone else using the product in-action.
And if you fast forward the video below to minute 3:28, you can see just how ridiculously easy this is as Sarah demonstrates.
NOTE: Fast forward to 3:28
(By the way, this video Sarah replicated had amassed over 9 million views on Facebook over its ad campaign, yet took less than a minute to film and set up)
Adding that extra 10% effort to create a clean video to help your customer understand and engage with your ad better is one of the best things you can do today to boost your sales. Plus, as the old saying goes, “actions speak louder than words.”
Dropshipping Hack #2: Change Ad Budgets Just After Midnight
The Facebook algorithm is very smart – which is why it is very easy for newbies to have success with Facebook ads.
It works to try to put your ad in front of the right people that are most likely to convert and purchase your products. It also tries to figure out how to best use your ad budget across the day.
But let’s say you’re onto a “winner” (a product that is making you a profit) and want to scale up. So, you go ahead and dial the budget up for your campaign at the middle of the day — thinking it’ll lead to more sales.
What really happens, though, is you disrupt the algorithm. Normally, the algorithm spends your daily budget across the whole day, testing to see what times of the day people are most interacting with your ad and converting.
BUT, if you change the ad budget midway through the day, Facebook scrambles to try and spend your new advertising budget by the end of the day. That means that it doesn’t get to test it across a whole 24-hour period, so it spends it inefficiently – and thus collects inefficient data, negatively impacting your campaign.
The workaround solution is to increase your ad budget — just after midnight. This way, the Facebook algorithm has the entire day to test the ad budget and collect accurate data.
However – not everyone wants to stay up until midnight just to update their ad budgets (I understand that!). So, instead, what you can do is when you create your Business Manager account in Facebook and set your time zone to be one that is ahead of you. For example, if you live in California, you would be in Pacific Time. You could set your time zone to be Eastern Time, so that it would be three hours ahead. This means you could update your ad budgets at 9pm instead of midnight.
Or if your time zone is Eastern Time you could set it to British Standard Time (BST), which is five hours ahead.
Whichever way you play with the time will depend on where you live. The main aim is using your budget wisely to max out the “juice” you can get from the algorithm, in the most effective way possible.
Dropshipping Hack #3: Sell Digital Products to Your Customers
When it comes to making money online, there’s a bit of a split.
On one side, you have eCommerce — this is where you sell physical products on sites like Amazon and Etsy, or dropship products in your own store from Aliexpress.
The other is the digital side — where you sell digital products like online eBooks and courses.
But then there’s one other “secret” side that not only the 1% of dropshippers really know about: combining BOTH eCommerce and digital products in your store.
Most dropshippers don’t even think about selling digital products like eBooks or video courses. They only think about selling physical products to their customers. This is a big mistake though, as digital products can have HUGE profit margins since they have less overhead costs, which means that merchants for digital products often pay out generous commissions.
By generous commissions, I mean upwards of 50 – 75% — per SALE.
What this means is that you can dropship physical products from Aliexpress as a way to collect email leads (“leads” are just a fancy term you give someone who signs up for your email list), and when each buyer is added to your email list, you then promote DIGITAL products to them through email.
Of course, it shouldn’t just be any digital product — but a high quality product that your customers would truly benefit from and solves a pain they might have.
For example, if you’re in the dog niche and sell unique, exciting low-cost dog items in your store — in your email list, you might promote Doggy Dan’s ‘Online Dog Trainer’ course to help people who might be having problems with their dog at home, like:
- Toilet training issues
- Jumping on you (or other people)
- Barking at the front door
These are all problems your customers are likely to have — and you can solve this problem by being an affiliate for this program and earn commissions every time someone purchases through your link.
So don’t think that you can only sell your dropshipping customers physical products. Check to see if there are any good affiliate programs in your niche for digital products and take advantage of the big commission rates.
Plus you won’t have to worry about shipping or fulfilling any items, as the vendor (the owner of the product) takes care of this. Your only job is to drive traffic to their offer and convert them into customers.
Making more sales doesn’t have to (and shouldn’t) feel like a pipe dream. By using these 3 hacks, generating more sales becomes less of a challenge — yet fun at the same time! So, which “hack” are you going to use? 1, 2, 3 — or all of them?
And before you go…
