Watch the video below:
At Wholesale Ted, we usually focus advise subscribers to build a “niche” store.
A store built around one niche that sells lots of items related to that particular niche.
But today, we’re throwing this advice out of the window.
But there are other ways to build a successful dropshipping store.
Like building a “1-product store.”
“A 1-product store?” you might ask. “What’s that?”
Well, it’s quite self-explanatory: A store that sells 1 product. Simple!
Sounds way too easy right? Surely there must be a catch to it… Or some secret…
And there is: Finding the RIGHT product. That’s the secret to building a profitable 1-product store.
And this blog post will show you how to find the right product. And how to build your own 1-product store, using Sarah’s simple step-by-step process.
Let’s get started.
Finding a Product for Your Store
This is a back brace. A universal tool that helps millions of people worldwide alleviate back pain.
Because it is so popular, plenty of dropshippers have taken advantage of this and built a 1-product store around this single item.
But this item isn’t anything fancy. Nor too “high-tech” to find. In fact, every dropshipper who sells this item is buying it from AliExpress. Yet this one single item generates for them tens of thousands of dollars per day.
For example, here is a 1-product store, Back Forces, that sells the exact same back brace from AliExpress in their store.
All they did was simply focus on branding the item in a way that made it seem original. And they did this by building a high-converting store.
One with a good layout, engaging images and persuasive copy on their product pages to urge customers to buy the item. They also changed the name of the item from back brace to ‘Back Booster.’
Building the store was 10% of the work. Because 90% of it had already been accomplished by finding the right product.
That is why this step – choosing the right product – is crucial to building a profitable 1-product store.
The end goal is to pick a single product, and scale it to thousands of dollars by reaching millions of people.
So what makes a winning product a winner? Well, there is a specific criteria you can follow to spot one yourself.
Step 1: The Criteria for a Winning 1-Product Store Product
The back brace is so successful because it is a universal product.
Almost everybody, at some point in life, experience a period of back pain. In the US alone, about 31 million Americans experience low back pain at any given moment. So it’s no surprise that back pain is something a lot of people are trying to get rid of. And this piece of equipment here does the job.
And that’s a rule of thumb for picking a product: make sure it is solves a universal problem. A problem that A LOT of people around the world want to solve.
This explains why selling a cat coffee mug would never work. Its audience, cat lovers, is way too narrow to only create a 1-product store around. And the goal here isn’t to appeal to a small audience, but to reach out to millions of people.
With that being said, although we want our product to reach a big audience size, we also want the item you’re selling to be inaccessible.
By inaccessible, we mean something that can’t easily be found at the mall. Why? Think about it – if you could easily go to the mall, rather than wait two to four weeks for the same item, wouldn’t you? Of course you would! Why wait weeks when you can get it in minutes?
That’s why in dropshipping, you want to focus on selling unique items that cannot be easily found at the local store. This increases its perceived value, while handing you the power to raise its price (because nobody can easily place a price over how much it costs).
The third element for picking the right product is that it must be something people are passionate about. Really passionate about.
Fixing back pain is something a lot of people are passionate about. The pain hurts so bad, yet most people can’t get rid of it! So a done-for-you solution like the back brace goes a long way in alleviating this pain from their life.
And lastly, you want to ensure the item is visually appealing. Images and videos of the product in-action is a powerful way of bringing the item to life, while helping people to understand (and imagine) how the item would work in real life.
And so those are the four crucial elements for choosing the right product:
- Choose a universal product or problem that a lot of people want to solve.
- Make sure this product isn’t something that can easily be found at the mall.
- Make sure it’s something people are passionate about.
- Make the item visually appealing
Now you know the key element for picking the right product, let’s move onto how to find one.
Step 2: Find Mass Appeal 1-Product Store Products on AliExpress
Just like we did with our back brace, for step two, we are going to use AliExpress to source a product that we can build our one-product store around.
The easiest way to find mass appealing products is to check out the top selling products on AliExpress.
Once you’ve found them, you’ll want to manually browse through the list to see whether or not they meet our criteria we mentioned in step one.
Before this, though, there is something important to keep in mind. A lot of products on AliExpress may have mass appeal, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they could be a potential product to build a store around.
Watches are a great example of this. Why? Because while a lot of people wear them, not everybody has a passion for them.
It’s only luxury brands, like Rolex or Hublot, that have customers who are highly passionate about wearing their watches. But a normal watch from AliExpress won’t have people jumping out of their seat.
Normal watches can also be easily found in your local jewellery shop. There isn’t anything unique about a normal watch, so would hardly stand a chance in gaining the interest of millions of people on Facebook.
So don’t fall into the trap of ‘passing’ a product because it simply has mass-appeal. We want it to tick all of the boxes for our criteria, not just one.
So what could be a good product? Well, as we already know, back braces are highly popular. And its niche, health and fitness, is HUGE. A lot of people want to lose weight, improve their health, and definitely fix any pain they might be experiencing.
So the Beauty and Health category on AliExpress would be a great opportunity to find other popular mass-appeal products.
Under this category, we may at times spot those mass appeal products that people simply buy but have no passion about them.
In this case, a good trick is to narrow down the search and pick a smaller niche, like healthcare products
Now we’ve narrowed down our search, you’ll want to sort your search by clicking Orders. This will sort the search by the number of orders that have been placed on the item. So we get to see the most popular at the top. And move down from here.
Browsing through your search, you’ll want to click on a product, and then examine it against our criteria. Here, we’ve chosen one of the top selling products — a wireless muscle stimulator.
And so now we examine. The first question we ask is, “Is this product universal?” The answer would be an obvious yes. How many of us want to look in good shape and tone up? A lot of us do! And this product here is designed to help with it.
And so, we now move on to the next question: “Is this something people are passionate about?” Absolutely! Weight loss and muscle building are two huge niches that currently exist, and this probably won’t change as long as we’re alive.
The next following question would be “Is it unusual?” I think it’d be fair to say definitely. You don’t see this piece of equipment lying around in the gym. And we bet if you walked outside topless with this plugged into your belly, you’ll probably get some funny looks!
So far, so good. And for the last question, “Is it visually striking?” we can clearly see from the image that this question would be an easy yes. There are several highly engaging images our supplier here has provided, which is a big bonus for when creating your own store around this item.
Now that we have a mass appeal product that meets all of our criteria, let’s move onto the next step.
Step 3: Create a Winning 1-product Store Facebook Ad Campaign
So once you’ve gone on to create your one-product store, your next step is to promote it using Facebook advertising.
A great strategy, and one we recommend, is to target people who you would want to buy your item based on demographics.
Coming back to our back brace example, what type of person in society would be prone to slouching? One answer could be office jobs.
People who work in the office tend to experience back pain issues the most, through constant slouching and sitting all day at their desk.
And with a little research, we can also discover that most people start noticing back pain between the ages of forty and sixty.
So if we target people who are forty plus and work an office job, we’re more likely to find people who are willing to buy back braces. As they are more prone to back pain.
So from here, you would create a Facebook ad targeting these two demographics. If your test results in no conversions, a good idea would be to test new ad creatives. Or change your demographics to something different.
Your ad creatives could be a new image or even a video (something that we highly recommend). NOTE: One sneaky trick is to spy on what other successful ads have been created in the past, then model your new creatives around previous success.

The Bottom Line
Creating a one-product store is a great way to profit from one item, without having to do lots of testing with several products.
But with limited choice of products, and only one product to test, picking the RIGHT product is absolutely crucial.
So, remember, before choosing a product to build your store around, you’ll want to ask yourself these four questions.
- “Is this product universal?”
- “Are people passionate about this product?”
- “Is it unusual, or something that can’t easily be found at the mall?”
- “Are the images visually striking?”
If your answer is yes to all of these questions here, you’re onto a potential winner. And the next step is to build your store around the product, then test on Facebook, targeting demographics.
Though this type of dropshipping store is unique, the right product can launch you into a world of millions of buyers. And with the right audience, you could make thousands of dollars with one single product alone.
